THE IDOLM@STER vs AKB48

So, I love idols. Mainly kpop idols, I’ll admit, but I’m also a huge AKB48 fan. If you’ve been living under a rock, you should know that AKB48, Arashi and EXILE are the golden trio of the Japanese music industry right now. Everything they put out tops the chart, AKB’s last single sold over one million (physical) copies in two days. They are everywhere.
And so naturally, as I watch my idol anime (THE IDOLM@STER and Uta no Prince-sama, although the latter is irrelevant here) I can’t help but compare it to AKB. Or rather, as I watch IDOLM@STER, I end up comparing the 765 idols to the AKS girls. Of course, the anime girls feel a bit flatter and less interesting than the AKS girls, but yanno, the AKS girls are real and all.
So, here are my comparisons of the IDOLM@STER girls and the AKB girls they are most similar to.

Takajo Aki / Amami Haruka / Takahashi Minami

Harurun is sort of the ‘main girl’. She’s mad clumsy, but tries hard, and always has remains smiling and positive. She’s a hard worker and earnest about what she does.
Green-cha, Barley-cha, Oolong-cha, but of course? Aki-cha!
To be honest, to me that screams ‘Akicha’! Akicha is always, always smiling, on variety, during photoshoots, in the theater, in concerts. She just looks so goddamn pleased to be there, in AKB, doing whatever. She was also the fastest girl in AKB history to be promoted from kenkyuusei to full AKB member, which proves her talent and hard work! (oh, the exclamation marks. I’m super passionate about AKB, you’ll quickly learn.)
I may look a bit yankee but inside I have a glass heart.
Takamina is the extremely short leader of Team A, and of AKB48 as a whole. She one of the hardest working members, and absolutely loves AKB with all her heart. She’s also the favourite of AKB manager/producer Aki-P. She’s a bit of a tomboy, and rougher and clumsier than many of the girlier AKB members, earning her the nickname ‘Takaboy’.

Probably because half the staff are the same. Eiji Nakata and Yuriko Chiba are in charge of in charge of character design and directing the animation, and both of them worked on CG as well. It shows.

Didn’t blog 9 becaaaaause it was boring. OK, it wasn’t boring, I just couldn’t bring myself to care about it at all.

I still think Okabe is boring as hell but Yui herself is growing on me! In this scene she suddenly pops in to advise Shaku and it’s so cute and funny.

Majisuka Gakuen 2 Ep8

I’m really interested in how Nezumi really feels about Centre. Centre has been very clear about how she feels about Nezumi. She loves her. It’s not totally clear if that’s as a friend or as a lover: naturally, two underage idols can’t be shown to be in a lesbian relationship, but obviously the wota want to imagine the girl-on-girl shenanigans, so it’s being left vague.
As for Nezumi, she acts the caring friend to Centre’s face, then turns around and schemes and plots behind her back. At this point, the scheming is helping Centre, but I want to know what will happen if Centre suddenly stands in Nezumi’s way. Will she be so keen to help her friend then?

I want the Eyeshield 21 artbook

[Incomplete] Scans of the artbook appeared on MT a few nights ago, and since I think Yusuke Murata is one of the best artists in Jump, naturally I downloaded it. I really, really wish it would be released here, but I doubt it. In general, if an artbook is released here for a series I read, I buy it. Even if I don’t think the artwork is particularly great, like Naruto. It’s a shame ES21 isn’t so popular internationally, because I really love it, it’s definitely better than most Jump sport mangas. I have up to volume 33 on my bookshelf right now. I’ve paused collecting them though, since to be honest the final arc is a complete letdown and I’m in no rush to buy it. I’ll wait till the series is complete and get them all together.
Speaking of artbooks, I checked my bookshelf last night – I have like 5 Code Geass artbooks. jfc.

Anyway, I just want to spam some of the best illustrations from the book.
