Probably because half the staff are the same. Eiji Nakata and Yuriko Chiba are in charge of in charge of character design and directing the animation, and both of them worked on CG as well. It shows.
Lelouch easily made this exact face whenever disheartened. Of course Lulu was a genius who pretended to be a likeable school prince to furthur his own gain; whereas Tandoji is unsociable and wears his heart on his sleeve.

Nanami reminds me of Shirley and I’m not sure why. She sort of irritates me though. She didn’t irritate me as I watch SS, but looking at this pic I sort of want to punch her in the face very badly.
It’s going to take a lot to convince me that this is not a Knightmare Frame. Because it clearly is.
