Girls in Jrock

July 18, 2010 at 7:21 am 1 comment

Remember when I used to write about anime? God, this season sucks so hard. All I’m watching is Shiki, and that’s only because Gackt is in it.

So here’s a pimp post on on the incredibley rare phenomena that is females in jrock/visual-kei. Not fangirls, we all know they are plentiful; but women who are actually part of bands.

Danger☆Gang are probably the most well-known band of this post. The band is comprised entirely of females, and have been around since 2002. They haven’t released anything for over a year now, but I believe they have a release coming soon. Rei is hot.
Vo: Waka; Gu: Hiko, Ba: Thera; Dr: Rei

exist†trace are another all-girl band. They’re not exactly less well-known than DG, but they’re less famous for being female. Around since 03, they are still regularly releasing.
Vo: Jou; Gu: Omi; Gu: miko; Ba: NAOTO; Dr: Mally

Zwei are a jrock duo comprising of Ayumu and Megu. And they are gorgeous and talented and started my obession with females in jrock. Noone does it quite as well as Zwei. Movie Star has been a favourite of mine for a good 4 or 5 years. Unfortunately, they haven’t released anything for two years! *sob*
Vo: Ayumu; Ba: Megu

Wasn’t sure whether to include Kana in the list. I know a lot of my friends hate her. Hell, I cannot listen to her early stuff. But she’s been active as a musician for a decade now; even if she’s not a very good one. Kana actually made her name modelling for the likes of the EGL bible and Kera. She also designs toys and illustrates.
Her videos have not aged well.

The band that inspired this post. I actually only discovered them a few weeks ago. Even though they play heavy metal, they have an almost Kyabajo look to them. Well, I love Agejo, so that’s fine with me. They’ve only been around since 2008, bless.
Vo: Rami; Gu: Yoshi; Gu: Toki; Ba: Sawa; Dr: Aruto

Aural Vampire

Oral Vampire! Gothic/electro duo. They’re a bit cheesy gothic. Watch the Freeeeze video, you’ll understand immediately. Not my style of music, but they’re catchy. I like their older stuff.

Couldn’t have a jrock post without a band without a ridiculous band name. D[di;] is a solo artist. Illustrator, novels, fashion, music, she’s involved with all areas of the art scene. Her Engrish is out of this world.
